Krishnil Mudaliar expressed deep disappointment and shed tears after losing a contentious points decision to local fighter Junior Binnu Singh for the WBF Australasian featherweight title at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka on Saturday night. Mudaliar, a former Fiji bantamweight and super featherweight champion, described the outcome as “daylight robbery” and called for a review of the decision.
The taller boxer utilized his reach advantage effectively, frequently landing jabs to keep Singh at bay throughout the fight. “The commission needs to review this and declare the rightful winner. I should have been ahead on the scorecards; I won every round from one to eight,” he stated.
Judges Fatu Tuimanono scored the match 77-72, Jone Loloma had it 78-72, and Rahul Sami scored it 77-75, all favoring Singh. Before the bout, Mudaliar had emphasized the necessity for fair officiating.
Mudaliar stated his readiness for a rematch with Singh, requesting the commission to facilitate another fight for the title. In response, Singh mentioned his plans to fight an international opponent next and dedicated his victory to his late grandfather, Jaswant Singh, who passed away the previous week. He acknowledged that while his grandfather was not a boxer, he played a pivotal motivational role in his career.
Singh noted that the fight unfolded as per their strategy and acknowledged Mudaliar as a formidable opponent. He also confirmed participation in a November event under Bluewater Boxing Promotion.
