Concert Security a Success: No Major Incidents Reported

The two-day Home Coming concert held in Nadi over the weekend was free of major incidents. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Livai Driu reported that while there were some issues related to alcohol, no serious incidents occurred.

He noted that enhanced security measures were in place at and around Prince Charles Park to prevent drug trafficking. “There were no drug arrests made; our K9 unit was present, and we only dealt with cases related to liquor violations, misbehavior outside the venue, and a few instances of assault,” he stated.

Driu also shared that a narcotics team from Suva had come to Nadi for the event, and he received an update confirming that it was incident free. Prior to the concert, law enforcement had intercepted two kilos of cocaine and made other drug-related arrests, anticipating potential drug transport attempts during the event.

Rowdy attendees were removed from the venue due to misbehavior, particularly those who had been drinking excessively. Driu emphasized that security was robust, with both Fiji Police and event-hired security personnel present.

Additionally, two vehicles suspected of transporting meth were checked in Sigatoka during the weekend but were intercepted without incident. Driu reaffirmed the commitment to combat drug trafficking in the region, focusing on the increasing transportation of meth, marijuana cultivation, and drug distribution in the country.
