Community Voices Unheard: A Talanoa Conference with Big Implications

During a recent talanoa session, eight District Advisory Councillors (DAC) discussed various challenges their communities face with Professor Biman Prasad, Fiji’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance.

The meeting, held in Vuci South, Nausori, focused on pressing issues such as drainage problems, feeder road conditions, clogged culverts, informal settlements, and the rising concern of drug use among youth.

Professor Prasad highlighted the alarming involvement of young individuals in drug-related activities, emphasizing that it requires a collective effort from the government, parents, and community members to combat this issue.

He assured stakeholders that he would work towards addressing the identified concerns and provided an overview of some aspects of the 2024–25 National Budget.

According to Professor Prasad, the Coalition Government is committed to supporting and assisting the people. Additional talanoa meetings with grassroots participants and stakeholders are expected in the coming days.
