During a recent talanoa session, eight District Advisory Councillors (DAC) provided insights to Professor Biman Prasad, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, regarding various challenges in their communities.
The meeting, conducted in Vuci South, Nausori, prioritized several critical issues, including drainage problems, feeder road maintenance, clogged culverts, informal settlements, and rising drug use.
In his remarks about drug use, Professor Prasad expressed alarm over the increasing involvement of youth in this issue, labeling it as both frightening and concerning. He stressed the necessity for not just governmental action, but also active participation from parents and community members in tackling this pressing problem.
Professor Prasad assured the attendees that he would take steps to address the issues raised during the discussions. He also provided an overview of certain components of the 2024-25 National Budget, outlining the government’s operational focus.
According to Professor Prasad, the Coalition Government is dedicated to supporting and alleviating the challenges faced by the population.
Looking ahead, additional talanoa meetings with grassroots participants and stakeholders are expected in the near future.
