Community Unites: PM Urges Action Against Drug Crisis in Fiji

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has urged Ratu Kadavulevu School (RKS), Queen Victoria School (QVS), and local communities in Tailevu North to collaborate with the government in combating the spread of narcotics in Fiji.

During the RKS Centennial celebration at Albert Park in Suva, he mentioned that city cleaners discovered drug-related evidence in garbage collected following the Hibiscus Festival.

“I expressed my hopes at the Hibiscus event that upon cleaning the area the next day, there would be no signs of drug use,” Mr. Rabuka stated. He added that he had requested police to inspect rubbish piles at the Hibiscus venue and they did find evidence of drug use.

He emphasized the importance of community efforts in battling this issue, noting the potential of the Lodoni/RKS community to take action. The Prime Minister affirmed his desire for RKS to persist as a source of hope, knowledge, and exemplary citizenship, contributing positively to the nation’s future.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP) Livai Driu confirmed the presence of methamphetamine, marijuana, and syringes found near the festival locations.

“We have observed loose syringes in various areas, particularly at Nabukalou Creek and near the Village 6 cinema and Bowling Club,” ACP Driu explained. He raised concerns about unreported syringe use, which heightens the risk associated with this problem, indicating an ongoing effort to understand how these syringes are being utilized.
