Community Unites for New Multipurpose Hall in Vuci

A long-awaited project to build a community hall has officially commenced in Vuci, Tailevu, aimed at providing shelter during adverse weather conditions for local residents. Joji Butadroka, the head of community development in Vuci, highlighted the significance of the initiative.

He spoke on the occasion of receiving the newly appointed Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka during a regional meeting held in Vuci recently. This project has been in the planning stages since 2009, with some progress made in 2012.

In recent years, the government has supported the village improvement scheme, which has contributed to the completion of the community hall project, with a total budget of $790,000.

Butadroka emphasized that the hall will significantly benefit local residents by providing them with shelter, especially during natural disasters.

He mentioned that there are 67 families in Vuci, with nearly 300 residents in total. “In the past, during adverse weather or storms, we often sought refuge in private homes, churches, or other facilities. Now, with the new community hall, we have a dedicated place for shelter,” he stated.

He added that the hall will also feature a space for first aid (dispensary), a youth resource center, and a women’s resource center, ensuring that resources are available for the community.

The regional meeting acknowledged the importance of the community hall for future gatherings and activities, with high hopes that it will serve as a vital facility for local residents.
