In a recent initiative aimed at strengthening family ties and addressing social challenges, Tui Sabeto, Ratu Viliame Mataitoga, has implemented new regulations in his community. This decision is part of a broader approach to enhance community engagement and tackle the rising drug crisis impacting the area.

Under the new rules, kava consumption in the village will be banned from midnight on Saturdays until 6 p.m. on Sundays, a strategy devised to encourage residents to spend quality time with family and participate in church services. Ratu Viliame emphasized that this focus on family and community is crucial in today’s fast-paced world, suggesting that reconnecting with cultural and spiritual roots can help foster a supportive environment.

Additionally, Ratu Viliame has instituted a movement restriction on vehicles entering the village from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. This measure is intended to deter illegal drug sales and usage, which typically occur during late-night hours. By controlling access during these times, he aims to enhance safety and decrease drug-related activities within the community.

The Tui Sabeto’s leadership extends to a range of issues, including food security and safety for women and children. He advocates for self-sufficiency through local food production as a means to combat rising living costs. Furthermore, Ratu Viliame acknowledges the necessity of legal frameworks to enforce these initiatives, expressing support for the establishment of village by-laws. His commitment during a recent Great Council of Chiefs meeting indicates a strong belief in empowering local leaders to manage community affairs effectively.

Ratu Viliame’s comprehensive approach seeks to cultivate a healthier and more resilient community. As he encourages collective efforts to address these significant issues, there is palpable hope for positive change as residents unite to elevate their village’s well-being and safety.

This initiative not only promotes family values but also addresses urgent social issues, embodying a proactive stance towards securing a brighter future for the community.
