The Fiji Water Foundation, along with FIJI Water, Neptune Pacific Direct Line (NPDL), and Aspen Medical, has revitalized the Children’s Ward at Lautoka Hospital, just in time for the holiday season. This initiative is part of their Wonderful Neighbour Project, which empowers employees to engage in impactful community projects.
The Wonderful Neighbour Project allows FIJI Water and NPDL employees to propose and execute initiatives that benefit their local communities, with each participant receiving a budget of $100 and eight hours of paid work. This collaborative effort aims to strengthen the bonds between the organizations and the communities they serve. Aspen Medical’s CEO in Fiji, Gavin Whiteside, expressed appreciation for the invaluable support provided to the Children’s Ward, highlighting the long-term benefits for families.
This year, the initiative saw participation from 798 employees, contributing over 4,500 volunteer hours to 21 projects across Fiji. Semi Lotawa, director of the FIJI Water Foundation, emphasized their commitment to fostering positive change and sustainability within the community.
The team’s efforts included improving the waiting area and restroom facilities, donating a washing machine, dryer, and recreational equipment like a swing set and trikes for the children. They also undertook extensive renovations, such as water blasting, painting, tiling, and landscaping, with the involvement of 120 employees over three days.
This initiative not only enhances the hospital environment but also demonstrates the power of community engagement and corporate social responsibility in driving positive change. As we look forward to the future, such efforts inspire hope and show how collective action can lead to tangible benefits for families in need.
