As part of the home’s ongoing enrichment programs aimed at uplifting residents’ spirits, the celebration included a delightful festive lunch complemented by traditional Diwali sweets, which helped bring the flavors of the holiday to the home. The atmosphere was further enhanced by a live performance from the Fiji Corrections Services Band, whose music added to the joyful ambiance.

Residents were also treated to vibrant cultural dances performed by artists from the Indian High Commission’s Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre, showcasing traditional Diwali performances that filled the event with color and energy.

Veremo Muria, the Director of Social Protection, highlighted the significance of such celebrations for the residents, stating, “Our residents deserve to experience the joy and warmth of Diwali. This celebration not only honors the rich cultural heritage of our community but also brings our residents together, creating cherished memories and strengthening bonds with their carers.”

These kinds of community engagements display the compassionate nature of society and remind everyone of the importance of connection and joy in the lives of the elderly. By celebrating cultural festivals, care facilities like Golden Age Home not only brighten the days of their residents but also enrich the community as a whole.
