The Ministry of Health & Medical Services is extending its support to Assistant Health Inspector Ulaiasi and Staff Nurse Litea, whose medical quarters in Naroi, Moala, Lau were completely destroyed by a fire last night. Fortunately, both were away from the premises at the time—Ulaiasi was in Suva, and Litea was visiting friends on a nearby island. However, the fire resulted in the loss of all their personal belongings.
Minister for Health, Dr. Ratu Atonio Rabici Lalabalavu, has reached out to the staff members to offer encouragement and support during this difficult period. The incident has raised serious concerns about fire safety in the area, reflecting a troubling trend of fire-related incidents that have been observed in recent months. Local authorities, including the police, are currently investigating the cause of the fire, which remains undetermined.
This incident is not only a personal tragedy for the affected staff but also poses a challenge for the Moala Health Centre and the larger healthcare community. In response, the Ministry is urging the community to come together in support of Ulaiasi and Litea through prayers and donations. Contributions can be made via MPaisa at the designated number to help them begin their recovery.
Despite this loss, there is hope for increased community resilience and support. The incident serves as a critical reminder of the need for enhanced fire safety measures in the area. The unwavering support from the community can lead to valuable discussions about preparedness, ensuring a safer environment for all residents in the future.
While this situation is undoubtedly challenging, it also presents an opportunity for the community to come together in solidarity and advocate for improvements in safety standards. The joint efforts to assist the affected individuals may spark greater awareness around fire prevention and preparedness, ultimately fostering a stronger and more resilient Moala community moving forward.
