Police are currently investigating an incident involving the stoning of a Classic Bus in Natabua, Lautoka, that occurred last week. Reports indicate that the bus was struck by stones while in transit, resulting in damage to the vehicle.

The bus operator took to social media to inform customers about the incident, emphasizing their commitment to passenger and staff safety. They assured passengers that remedial measures are being implemented in response to this alarming act of vandalism.

Following the company’s post, some community members expressed concerns regarding the behavior of certain bus drivers, labeling them as rude and arrogant. These frustrations may have contributed to the incident, with passengers voicing complaints about service delays, particularly during peak travel hours.

Ana Naisoro, a spokesperson for the police, confirmed that a report has been filed, and investigations are ongoing. This incident is part of a larger pattern of attacks on public transport vehicles in the Natabua area, which local leaders have condemned.

Narayan Reddy, president of the Lautoka Residents and Ratepayers Association, has called for stricter penalties for such acts. He noted the potential dangers that these actions pose to both drivers and passengers, highlighting the previous warnings from police officials about violence against public transport.

While investigations are still in progress, there is hope that increased community awareness and cooperation will foster a safer environment for public transportation. With concerted efforts from law enforcement and the public, measures can be taken to reduce incidents of violence and vandalism, ensuring a more respectful and secure atmosphere for all travelers.
