The community of Veiquwawa Settlement in Raiwaqa is in mourning following the tragic passing of Miriama Radinikuva, a devoted mother who lost her life in a devastating house fire on March 16, 2025. Miriama, aged 37, leaves behind five young children, aged between one and 13 years, and is deeply missed by her family, friends, and neighbors.
The fire reportedly broke out around 2 PM, quickly engulfing Miriama’s home. Eyewitness Ana Rokomuri, who was Miriama’s closest friend, recounted the frantic moments as she searched for her amidst the chaos. “I kept asking around for her,” she said tearfully. In a heroic attempt, one of Miriama’s cousins entered the blazing house to rescue the children, while Miriama’s husband, Viliame Baravi, sustained serious burns in his efforts to save his family.
Litia Daulekeba, the children’s grandmother, shared her heartbreak, emphasizing that the children are now in her care as they face this profound loss. “I really don’t know what happened, but I know my grandchildren are just as shocked as I am,” she expressed.
