A member of the public successfully assisted in the capture of a remandee who escaped from police custody near the Suva Bus Stand this morning. The individual was in the process of being escorted to the Suva Court when he attempted to flee.

Eyewitnesses captured a video showing five police officers in pursuit of the man as he fled the scene. Thanks to the intervention of a civilian, the escape was thwarted, allowing the police to apprehend the suspect.

This incident underscores the critical role community members can play in supporting law enforcement efforts to maintain public safety. It is part of a broader trend observed in recent events where public cooperation has proven essential in capturing suspects, as seen in cases of robbery and other offenses that emphasize community vigilance and collaboration with police.

With ongoing community involvement, there is hope that such partnerships will continue to foster a safer environment. This incident serves as a meaningful reminder of the positive impact citizens can have when working alongside law enforcement to combat crime and ensure the safety of neighborhoods.
