Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP) Livai Driu expressed gratitude to the public for their support in aiding an officer during the arrest of an intoxicated individual in Lautoka yesterday. He highlighted the various challenges police officers face daily and the need for measured responses in any situation.
Driu noted the importance of community cooperation in ensuring safety and order. “We sincerely appreciate those who assisted the officer; together, they were able to subdue the individual,” he remarked. He emphasized that police officers must carefully consider the level of force they use, as it can lead to complications, including reports against them.
Training forms a vital part of officers’ readiness; Driu explained that all recruits undergo defense and combat training as part of their Basic Recruits Course. This training includes techniques for suspect apprehension and teachings on human rights, provided in collaboration with law enforcement partners.
A nine-second viral video on social media captured the incident, showing the intoxicated man engaged in a physical altercation before being subdued. The individual is currently in police custody for allegedly assaulting the officer.
This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of community support in law enforcement efforts. The collaboration between the police and the public can significantly enhance safety and help maintain peace in the community.
By showcasing the role of citizens in assisting police, this incident also highlights a hopeful narrative of teamwork and community spirit in overcoming challenges.
