Participants at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) Samoa 2024 in Apia will engage in discussions aimed at enhancing cooperation among Commonwealth states. This week’s event will allow delegates to share insights and showcase advancements related to important commitments.
Throughout CHOGM Samoa 2024, leaders and representatives will attend executive sessions and a leaders’ retreat to address shared priorities that will influence future initiatives of the organization.
Commonwealth Secretary-General Patricia Scotland emphasized the significance of hosting the meeting in Apia. “CHOGM Samoa 2024 arrives at a crucial point in our history, where the impacts of climate change are no longer just looming threats,” she stated. “These issues have reached our communities, disrupting lives and increasing in intensity, especially in the Pacific, where some nations experience sea level rise four times the global average.”
Scotland noted that the Commonwealth has consistently supported the Pacific region and emphasized the organization’s potential as a force for positive change. She expressed confidence that the decisions made during CHOGM would lead to significant and lasting improvements for both people and the planet.
