“Comeback Victory: Cook Islands Triumph Over Vanuatu in U-16 Men’s Championship”

Cook Islands staged a remarkable comeback to defeat Vanuatu 3-1, boosting their chances of reaching the OFC U-16 Men’s Championship semi-finals in Tahiti.

With New Zealand already securing a spot in the semi-finals, the victory means Fiji, Cook Islands, and Vanuatu still have a shot at joining them on the final Group A match day. New Zealand will face Cook Islands, while Fiji will go up against Vanuatu.

Vanuatu took an early lead with Jefpta Taravaki scoring in the 12th minute from a James Tanga cross. Despite maintaining early pressure, Vanuatu couldn’t increase their lead.

Cook Islands’ coach Ngati Manuel made effective halftime adjustments, and his team came out more assertive in the second half. Tahioa Webb equalized from the penalty spot after a handball.

The Cook Islands then went ahead through Harold Rasmussen, who capitalized on a defensive mistake. As Vanuatu sought an equalizer, Webb ensured the win with his second penalty in the 85th minute.

Goalkeeper Tunui Tunui made several crucial saves late in the game to secure the Cook Islands’ victory. This result sets up a thrilling final group match day, with semi-final spots still up in the air.
