Combatting Water Woes: Government’s Bold Strategies Unveiled

The Minister for Public Works, Ro Filipe Tuisawau, emphasized that water scarcity is a significant concern for the nation, and the Coalition Government is fully dedicated to resolving this issue. While addressing Parliament, Tuisawau highlighted that the challenges extend beyond infrastructure, particularly concerning the impacts of climate change and periods of drought.

The Minister stated that the government has implemented several mitigating measures to tackle these challenges. Among these initiatives are water rationing and scheduling programs designed to help communities manage water shortages more effectively.

Tuisawau also mentioned the introduction of free water tank schemes, which have been distributed in various rural and affected areas, and noted that the program remains available for those in need. This initiative allows residents to store water during shortages, alongside the construction of temporary cofferdams as an additional short-term solution. He stressed that these efforts are part of an ongoing work plan aimed at both immediate and long-term improvements.
