Construction on the Colo-i-Suva water supply program is progressing well, with completion anticipated between December this year and mid-January next year. Seru Soderberg, the chief executive officer of the Water Authority of Fiji (WAF), stated that commissioning is set for February.

The project, which commenced in 2025, is designed to span approximately one year and six months, with contractors beginning physical work in November. During this phase, pipeline installation is actively taking place in the Colo-i-Suva area, while the designs for a new pump station and reservoirs are being finalized.

This significant initiative includes the construction of two reservoirs, each capable of holding five million liters of water. Earlier, the Cabinet endorsed the partial surrender of the Colo-i-Suva forestry reserve to facilitate this development.

The upgrade aims to enhance water service delivery for communities located between Sawani and Tacirua. Soderberg explained that the infrastructure improvements will alleviate pressure on the Tamavua Water Treatment Plant, reducing its demand by approximately nine million liters per day. This shift is expected to improve overall service reliability across the system.

Communities along the Upper Princess Road Ridgeline, which often experience water shortages during high turbidity events, will benefit significantly from this new infrastructure, ensuring quicker restoration of water services. Areas such as Delainavesi, Vugalei, Lami Town, and Togalevu Naval Base will see improved service reliability.

Soderberg expressed optimism, stating that this project is not only about addressing current demand but also about expanding WAF’s capacity to serve the community better and more reliably, especially in adverse weather conditions. This development reinforces the commitment to enhancing water service infrastructure in Fiji.
