Coconuts are safe for consumers, and there have been no substantiated reports of individuals injecting drugs into them. This assurance comes from Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP) Livai Driu, who addressed public concerns surrounding recent rumors.
ACP Driu clarified that claims of police officers intercepting two individuals allegedly injecting drugs into coconuts are unfounded. On Thursday, November 21, during a mobile patrol in the Namadi area, the Samabula operations team was alerted by a bystander about two men exhibiting suspicious behavior.
Upon responding, the operations team encountered the two individuals on a footpath, where they were thoroughly searched, resulting in no illegal findings. ACP Driu noted that the men were known for selling coconuts along Princess Road, which may have sparked the speculation, but confirmed that the allegations were not accurate according to the reports filed by the officers.
This incident serves as a reminder that misinformation can easily spread, but it is also encouraging to see law enforcement actively addressing community concerns and ensuring public safety.
In summary, the police have effectively debunked false rumors, promoting trust and safety in the community regarding the purchase of coconuts.
