The Gold Coast Senibiau team showcased remarkable perseverance and ingenuity in preparing for their participation in the Mick’s Fiji Tours & Transfers Vatulele 7s tournament, which commenced yesterday at the Vatulele District School grounds. Hailing from Korotogo Village in Nadroga, the team faced significant challenges, notably the absence of sponsorship, which motivated them to seek alternative funding sources.

In an interview, player Esala Masinisau shared that to finance their journey to Vatulele, the team engaged in hard work, including climbing trees to collect coconuts and constructing pig pens. This determination not only underscores their commitment to the sport but also highlights the community spirit and resourcefulness that the team embodies.

The team’s trip involved traveling from Korotogo Village to the Korolevu landing and then taking a fiberglass boat to Vatulele at a cost of $40 per person. As they competed in the two-day tournament, Masinisau expressed their hope of returning home with a victory, which would serve as motivation for their future endeavors in sevens tournaments.

The Senibiau team’s journey reflects the power of teamwork and community support, with gratitude extended to their families and supporters. The tournament will conclude today, but their experiences and the effort invested in reaching this point are commendable and exemplify the heart and dedication that define sportsmanship.

This story serves as an inspiring reminder of how determination and resourcefulness can lead to meaningful achievements, igniting hope for aspiring athletes facing similar challenges in their pursuit of success.
