The Fiji Police Force has addressed recent rumors claiming that individuals were injecting drugs into coconuts, also known as ‘bu.’ Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP) Livai Driu assures the public that these reports are unfounded.

On the afternoon of November 21, police patrols in the Namadi area responded to a tip-off from a bystander who reported suspicious activity involving two men. Upon investigation, the officers located the two individuals walking along a footpath. After conducting a search, they found no illegal substances or evidence of wrongdoing.

ACP Driu explained that the men are known for selling coconuts along Princess Road, which may have sparked these misconceptions. However, he firmly stated that there was no basis for the allegations involving drug injection as reported. The Fiji Police Force is committed to transparency and encourages citizens to relay information through official channels, assuring confidentiality in their communications.

This incident highlights the importance of verifying information before spreading rumors, especially regarding public safety matters. While the initial reports were alarming, the swift response by the police reflects their dedication to the community and maintaining public trust. It is a positive reminder of the effectiveness of community vigilance and the importance of collaboration between the public and law enforcement.
