The 2025 Coca-Cola Games, Fiji’s foremost secondary schools athletics event, will prioritize safety and well-being by enforcing a drug-free policy. Announced by the Minister for Education, Aseri Radrodro, this three-day event will take place from April 24 to 26 at the HFC Stadium in Suva.

The Ministry of Education is working closely with the Fiji Police Force, the Ministry of Health, and various stakeholders to create a safe atmosphere for all participants and spectators. Strict measures include:

– A no-drug policy where any individual found with illegal substances will face serious penalties.
– A heightened police presence, which will conduct bag checks at entrances and utilize K9 units trained for drug detection.
– Surveillance through CCTV cameras and drones to monitor public safety.
– On-site drug testing for suspected use.
– Road checkpoints to enforce security in the vicinity of the event.

Schools and supporters are encouraged to foster a safe environment, with guidelines emphasizing the need for supervision during the event, respectful conduct, and responsible transport standards.

Minister Radrodro highlighted the importance of communal effort in safeguarding the games, stating, “The Coca-Cola Games are a celebration of our young people. Let’s make sure they stay safe and positive.” This call for cooperation from parents and guardians underlines the collective responsibility in promoting a positive experience for youth in athletics.

The proactive stance towards ensuring a drug-free environment echoes concerns raised during other Fijian sporting events, such as the Nawaka 7s rugby tournament, where organizers and law enforcement united in promoting a safe atmosphere. Such measures demonstrate a growing commitment across Fiji to combating substance abuse in sports, aiming to inspire young athletes toward healthier and more productive futures.

Overall, the concerted efforts for safety and community engagement leading to the Coca-Cola Games- alongside other athletic events hint at a positive trajectory for fostering sportsmanship and well-being among Fiji’s youth.
