Coastal Warning: Fiji on High Alert for Heavy Swells!

The Fiji Meteorological Service has issued a coastal inundation alert for all low-lying coastal regions of Southern Viti Levu, Beqa, Vatulele, Kadavu, and nearby smaller islands in the Central and Southern Lau groups. According to Fiji Met, a high-pressure system located to the far southwest of Fiji is anticipated to produce and direct moderate to heavy southerly swells across the southern waters of Fiji.

The expected high tides and swell heights are as follows:
– Friday, September 6, 2024, at 8:00 PM: 1.9m
– Saturday, September 7, 2024, at 8:20 AM: 1.8m

Possible impacts include coastal inundation and debris accumulation along low-lying coastal areas, especially during high tides. This period is expected to pose dangers for recreational activities.
