Coastal Flooding Alert: What You Need to Know!

A coastal inundation alert has been issued for the southern coastal regions of Viti Levu, spanning from Natadola and Vatukarasa to the Coral Coast, Kadavu, and adjacent smaller islands.

The Fiji Meteorological Service has warned that sea flooding is anticipated during high tide periods. Notable times for high tides include:

– Thursday, October 17 at 6:00 PM, reaching 2.11 meters
– Friday, October 18 at 6:30 AM
– Friday, October 18 at 6:50 PM, reaching 2.40 meters
– Saturday, October 19 at 7:25 AM, reaching 1.96 meters

The Fiji Met emphasizes that potential impacts include flooding in low-lying coastal areas, disruptions to marine and recreational activities, and threats to livelihoods. Additionally, debris may be carried onto coastal communities and roadways.
