A coastal inundation alert has been issued for the southern coastal regions of Viti Levu, specifically from Natadola and Vatukarasa to the Coral Coast, along with Kadavu and nearby smaller islands.
The Fiji Meteorological Service has predicted that sea flooding in these coastal areas is likely to occur during high tide periods. The significant upcoming high tides are as follows:
– Thursday, October 17 at 6:00 PM with a height of 2.11 meters
– Friday, October 18 at 6:30 AM
– Friday, October 18 at 6:50 PM with a height of 2.40 meters
– Saturday, October 19 at 7:25 AM with a height of 1.96 meters
The Fiji Meteorological Service warns of potential impacts, including flooding in low-lying coastal regions, disruption to marine activities, and challenges for local livelihoods. There may also be debris washed up along coastal communities and roads.
