The Fiji Meteorological Service has issued a coastal inundation alert for all low-lying coastal regions of Southern Viti Levu, Beqa, Vatulele, Kadavu, and nearby smaller islands in the Central and Southern Lau groups. The alert is due to a high-pressure system located far southwest of Fiji, which is anticipated to produce moderate to heavy southerly swells across the southern waters of the country.
The expected high tides and swell heights are as follows:
– Friday, September 6, 2024, at 8:00 PM: 1.9 meters
– Saturday, September 7, 2024, at 8:20 AM: 1.8 meters
There are potential risks of coastal flooding and debris along the low-lying coastal areas, particularly during the high tides. This period could also pose dangers for recreational activities along the affected areas.
