Coalition Unity Unaffected by Opposition Support

The support from Opposition MPs for Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka will not impact the coalition government formed by The Peoples Alliance party, National Federation Party, and SODELPA, according to Deputy Prime Minister and senior The Peoples Alliance party member, Manoa Kamikamica. Kamikamica emphasized that the coalition’s relationship with all political parties remains strong.

“We are working together well,” he stated.

Some Opposition members have expressed support for Rabuka while choosing to remain independent MPs. Kamikamica noted, “We all respect each other, and we’ve been working hard for the last 18 months.”

Meanwhile, Mr. Gavoka highlighted that the coalition government’s main focus is to tackle long-standing issues in the country. “I think people are starting to see a lot of that hard work starting to bear fruit,” he said.

When asked about the possibility of forming a government of national unity with the Opposition, Gavoka indicated that Prime Minister Rabuka would make that decision. “He will be the one that will guide us in terms of that,” Gavoka added.

Before forming such a government, the key question remains how best to collaborate to solve Fiji’s major concerns.
