The Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA) has expressed dissatisfaction with the achievements of the current coalition government, particularly regarding the implementation of their coalition agreement. General Secretary Viliame Takayawa stated that while many commitments have been partially fulfilled, they fall short of what the party expected.
Takayawa pointed out the lack of communication with SODELPA regarding crucial developments, notably the involvement of independent Members of Parliament (MPs) in proposed constitutional amendments. He remarked, “When the Prime Minister picked the G9 to be part of the government in terms of changing the constitution, there was no communication between the parties.” This comment encapsulates ongoing concerns about collaboration within the coalition.
Despite these concerns, the People’s Alliance has reiterated that the coalition government continues to move forward, despite differences that arise. This suggests a level of resilience among coalition partners that might foster continued cooperation.
This situation echoes previous tensions within the coalition, such as complaints regarding the appointment of ministers, which SODELPA indicated could detract from unity and effective governance. However, there remains a hopeful perspective that these challenges may present opportunities for improved dialogue among coalition partners.
