Coalition Politics: A Tribute to Leadership and Trust in Government

The leader of the National Federation Party, Professor Biman Prasad, has expressed his deep appreciation for Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, commending him for his friendship and fairness. During a Party Convention held in Sigatoka, Prasad highlighted Rabuka’s ongoing support during his personal challenges while in government.

“This represents a type of leadership that is promising for both our Government and our nation as we strive to enhance our governance and circumstances,” Prasad stated. He acknowledged the significance of their political partnership, which has roots that extend back to before their government formation and expressed optimism about its future longevity.

Prasad recognized the difficulties of functioning within a coalition, admitting that the three parties involved do not always see eye to eye, occasionally leading to public disagreements. “Such differences are to be expected. We all enter politics with various motivations and represent distinct groups with unique priorities. However, I assure you that even amidst public disputes, we maintain respect for one another. We are committed democrats who openly share our perspectives,” he noted.

He further elaborated that while they may not always align on every issue, it is essential for members of a coalition government to honor each other’s viewpoints. “Respect fosters trust, and after years of governance marked by distrust, we are on a path to reestablishing trust within our nation,” said Prasad.
