Deputy Prime Minister Professor Biman Prasad has expressed his belief that the Coalition Government model, which emphasizes collaboration among political parties, is the leadership style favored by the public. In a recent discussion on Lens@177, he suggested that sustaining this coalition could boost support in future elections.
He mentioned, “I expect more support for us if we keep the coalition and enter the elections as we did last time, alongside the NFP and PA.” Prasad underlined that citizens desire their leaders to unite and work collaboratively.
Reflecting on past attempts at coalition governance, he noted that while efforts by Jai Ram Reddy and Sitiveni Rabuka in 1999 did not succeed, the concept of a coalition has persisted and evolved. “Though they weren’t successful, the idea did not vanish. We came into power through a two-party coalition and are pleased that SODELPA has joined us,” he stated.
Looking toward the future, Prof Prasad is optimistic that this coalition structure will resonate with voters and influence the outcome of the upcoming 2026 election, despite current uncertainties surrounding SODELPA’s position. “This is the model people are looking for, and it will shape the future political landscape,” he affirmed.
This discussion highlights the importance of collaboration in governance and presents a hopeful perspective for the coalition’s potential impact on future elections. The ongoing interest in cooperative political engagement suggests that voters are increasingly favoring a united approach to leadership.
