Deputy Prime Minister Professor Biman Prasad expressed his belief that the Coalition Government model, which emphasizes cooperation among political parties, aligns with the leadership preferences of the public. During a discussion on Lens@177, he noted that by maintaining the coalition, they could potentially see a rise in support in upcoming elections.

Prof Prasad remarked, “I expect more support for us if we keep the coalition and approach the election as we did previously, alongside the NFP and PA. People desire collaboration among their leaders.” He acknowledged that efforts to establish a coalition government made by Jai Ram Reddy and Sitiveni Rabuka in 1999 did not succeed, yet the concept continues to be relevant and alive.

He also highlighted that their government operates as a two-party coalition with a pleased partnership with SODELPA. While he expressed uncertainty about SODELPA’s current status, he reaffirmed their vital role within the coalition framework. Looking to the future, Prof Prasad is optimistic that this collaborative model will resonate with voters and influence the outcome of the 2026 elections.

The focus on cooperative leadership may serve as a positive development in the political landscape, fostering collaboration that resonates with citizens who value unity and teamwork in governance.
