Finance Minister Biman Prasad has expressed strong confidence in the stability of the Coalition Government, reiterating support for Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka during a time of public scrutiny of the unredacted Commission of Inquiry (CoI) report. Prasad described the National Federation Party (NFP), which he leads, as a reliable partner in the Coalition Government, emphasizing their ongoing commitment since their coalition agreement prior to the elections.

Rejecting rumors of internal discord, Prasad highlighted the party’s responsibility in managing public expectations and articulated that such speculations were misplaced. He further discussed the ongoing CoI report, noting he had only reviewed its summary, as he is still yet to delve into the full report. “I was one of the witnesses in the inquiry, and as such, my name appears in the report along with many others. However, I have no issues with how I am referenced,” he stated, underscoring that he had been cleared of any wrongdoing by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption.

The conversation around the CoI report has intensified as two versions—redacted and unredacted—are being circulated, with significant public anticipation for the government’s decision on whether to publish the full document. Amidst these discussions, Prasad and Rabuka’s commitment to transparency and accountability remains evident, echoing sentiments expressed in previous articles regarding the importance of governance reforms.

The ongoing inquiries and the way they are handled signal a critical moment for Fiji, fostering a hope for enhanced ethical standards in government practices. As the Coalition navigates through these challenges, there seems to be a collective willingness to build trust and integrity within the political structure, suggesting a more stable future ahead for governance in Fiji.
