Deputy Prime Minister Professor Biman Prasad has expressed his belief that the Coalition Government model, which encourages collaboration among political parties, is favored by the electorate. In his remarks on Lens@177, he outlined his expectation that sustaining the coalition would likely enhance their support in future elections.
Professor Prasad noted, “I expect more support for us if we keep the coalition and go into the election as we did last time, with the NFP and PA. People want their leaders to work together.” He acknowledged that previous attempts at coalition governance, particularly by Jai Ram Reddy and Sitiveni Rabuka in 1999, were unsuccessful, yet the concept has persisted over the years.
He emphasized the positive progress made with the current coalition, particularly expressing satisfaction with SODELPA’s involvement. Looking toward the future, he remains optimistic that the coalition model will resonate positively with voters, even if he cannot currently affirm SODELPA’s position. He believes this collaborative approach will significantly influence the outcome of the upcoming 2026 election.
This optimistic view on coalition governance reflects a growing trend among voters who favor unity and collaboration in political leadership, highlighting a potential shift toward a more cooperative political landscape. As political parties work together, it could pave the way for more stability and collective decision-making, ultimately benefiting the wider community.
In summary, Professor Prasad is confident in the coalition government model’s appeal to voters and its potential to shape future elections, betting on collaboration to win public support.
