Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) is set to announce new head coaches for both the Fijiana 7s and 15s teams during this week, as confirmed by FRU CEO Rovereto Nayacalevu. He revealed that offers have been extended to potential candidates, and they are currently awaiting responses.

Among the applicants is the renowned US-based sevens legend Waisale Serevi, who has previously coached the Indian Women’s 7s team. In addition to Serevi, former player Sireli Bobo has also been mentioned as a potential candidate. Nayacalevu remains tight-lipped regarding other individuals who may have applied.

Today, Serevi is expected to collaborate with Bobo and the Fiji Sports Council coaching team to support the preparation of the Under-20 7s squad. This collaborative effort signifies a forward-thinking strategy to enrich the training and experience of young players in Fiji.

Over the weekend, Serevi was appointed the International Brand Ambassador for Aqua Pacific Natural Artesian Water, further enhancing his profile within the sports community. Nayacalevu highlighted the FRU’s commitment to ensuring the best-fit coaches for the crucial roles, aiming for enhanced game performance and results in international competitions.

The Fijiana 15s head coach position became available following the departure of Mosese Rauluni in October 2023, who successfully led the team to the Oceania Championship and qualified them for the upcoming Rugby World Cup. Similarly, the Fijiana 7s team will seek a new head coach after Saiasi Fuli’s contract was not renewed in December after five years of service, during which he led the team to a bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
