Tavua coach Dr. Diva Singh is set to take on a dual role during the crucial Digicel Senior League final playoff against Bua this Saturday. Dr. Singh, who is known for his reliability in the midfield, may step in to replace Captain Malakai Tiwa, who received a red card in the first leg of the final, which Bua won 1-0 at Subrail Park in Labasa.
Although Dr. Singh has not played in a game since becoming coach, he is prepared to rise to the occasion. In an interview with FijiLive, he expressed that while they will have the advantage of playing at home, the team must work diligently to secure a victory by a margin of two goals.
He stated, “We need to focus on our way of playing and place a lot of emphasis on mental preparation. Home ground will always be an advantage, but the boys need to do their part.”
Regarding Tiwa’s absence, he added, “Our Captain Tiwa was shown a direct red card for reasons unknown to us, and whoever steps into his position will have big shoes to fill. A lot of people are calling and asking me to step into the role of a player. I have been training with the team throughout the season but have not played yet.”
He continued, “I may take the field for Tavua for the last time on Saturday if need be. This is an important game for us as it will determine our status for next season. We desperately want to reclaim our spot in the Premier Division and understand the challenge ahead will be tough.”
Dr. Singh called on Tavua fans to come out and support the team, expressing confidence in their ability to deliver a strong performance.
Bua, needing only a draw to clinch the title and secure a Premier Division place, presents a significant challenge, while Tavua must win by at least two goals. A 1-0 win for Tavua would lead to extra time, and if no additional goals are scored, the match could ultimately be decided by penalty kicks.
