Coach Steps Up: Will Dr. Singh Play to Save Tavua’s Season?

Tavua’s coach, Dr. Diva Singh, is set to assume a dual role for the crucial Digicel Senior League final playoff against Bua on Saturday. Dr. Singh, a dependable midfielder, may step onto the field to replace Captain Malakai Tiwa, who received a red card during the first leg of the finals at Subrail Park in Labasa, where Bua secured a 1-0 victory.

Although he hasn’t participated in a match since taking on his coaching responsibilities, Dr. Singh is prepared to face the challenge. He emphasized the importance of hard work and mental preparation, acknowledging that their home advantage should be leveraged effectively.

Dr. Singh mentioned that he is aware of the pressure on whoever takes on Captain Tiwa’s role. “We need to focus on our way of playing and emphasize mental preparation. While the home ground is an advantage, the players must do their part,” he explained.

“We are unsure about the reasons behind Tiwa’s red card, but stepping into his shoes will be significant. Many have encouraged me to play. I have trained with the team all season but haven’t made an appearance yet. This might be my last match for Tavua if the situation calls for it. This game is crucial for us as it will influence our status for the next season. We are eager to regain our position in the Premier Division, recognizing that it will be a tough challenge,” he stated.

Dr. Singh also urged Tavua fans to come out in support, expressing confidence in the team’s ability to succeed. Bua requires only a draw to clinch the title and a spot in the Premier Division, while Tavua must win by at least two clear goals. If Tavua wins 1-0, the match will proceed to extra time, and penalties may be necessary if no additional goals are scored.
