Six passengers and their pilot have narrowly avoided serious injuries following a landing mishap at Yasawa Aerodrome. The incident involved a GA-8 Airvan aircraft, bearing registration DQ-VAN, which experienced difficulties during its landing, causing it to overrun the runway.
The aircraft had taken off from Nadi Airport at 9:49 AM and upon reaching Yasawa Aerodrome, it went past the designated landing zone and came to a halt just outside the runway area. While the aircraft sustained damage to its nose wheel and propeller, fortunately, there were no serious injuries reported among those on board.
Despite the incident, the Yasawa Aerodrome’s runway remains operational, and aviation activities are proceeding as normal. Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation, Viliame Gavoka, confirmed that an investigator will be appointed to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the accident, in line with established protocols and international aviation standards. The findings from this investigation are expected to inform any necessary actions to enhance safety measures in the future.
