A fortunate turn of events unfolded yesterday when six passengers and their pilot were unharmed following a landing mishap at Yasawa Aerodrome. According to a statement from the Fiji Government, the incident involved a GA-8 Airvan aircraft, registration DQ-VAN.
The flight took off from Nadi Airport at 9:49 AM, but during its landing at Yasawa Aerodrome, it overshot the runway, ultimately coming to rest just beyond the runway’s edge. Fortunately, while the aircraft incurred damage to its nose wheel and propeller, all individuals onboard emerged without serious injuries.
The Yasawa Aerodrome remains fully operational, and aviation activities are proceeding as normal. In response to the incident, Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Viliame Gavoka announced plans to appoint an investigator to conduct a comprehensive investigation in line with established procedures and international safety standards. The results of this investigation are expected to lead to improvements in air travel safety measures.
This incident highlights the resilience of air travel procedures and the effectiveness of aviation safety protocols. It is reassuring to know that no serious injuries occurred and that aviation operations continue uninterrupted. By prioritizing a thorough investigation, the government is committed to enhancing safety for all travelers.
