Six passengers and their pilot are fortunate to have escaped serious injury following an incident during landing at Yasawa Aerodrome yesterday. The Fiji Government confirmed that the mishap involved a GA-8 Airvan, registered as DQ-VAN.

The aircraft took off from Nadi Airport at 9:49 AM but unfortunately overran the runway upon landing, coming to a halt just beyond the strip. It has been reported that the aircraft sustained damage, particularly to its nose wheel and propeller.

Despite the incident, Yasawa Aerodrome remains operational, and aviation activities are continuing without interruption. Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation, Viliame Gavoka, has announced that an investigator will be appointed to conduct a thorough examination of the accident, following established procedures and international safety standards. The outcome of this investigation is expected to inform necessary measures to improve aviation safety protocols.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of aviation safety and the commitment of authorities to investigate and implement improvements where needed. With continual assessments and adjustments, the aviation industry can work toward minimizing risk and ensuring that passengers remain safe during their travels.
