Los Angeles Clippers owner Steve Ballmer is currently under scrutiny as NBA Commissioner Adam Silver has announced an investigation into potential salary-cap violations. During a press conference following the league’s board of governors meetings in New York, Silver confirmed that an external law firm has been enlisted to examine the allegations. The probe will be headed by the firm Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz. Silver emphasized the necessity for fairness and thoroughness in the process, stating, “The burden is on the league if we’re going to discipline a team, an owner, a player or any constituent members of the league.”
The NBA’s Collective Bargaining Agreement strictly prohibits any arrangement where a team or its affiliates provide compensation to a player that exceeds the fair market value for services rendered to a sponsor, business partner, or third party.
