The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change has officially been allocated $10.8 million for the upcoming financial year, a move that has garnered positive remarks from Minister Mosese Bulitavu. This funding will facilitate the implementation of the Climate Change Act 2021, which includes several sections that are either currently in force or set to be introduced soon.

One of the key initiatives outlined by Minister Bulitavu is the development of a carbon trading registry, which signals a growing commitment towards sustainable practices. He also noted that additional funds will be directed towards Environmental Impact Assessments, enabling the Ministry to increase the frequency of these assessments across various sectors.

Moreover, Bulitavu mentioned an increased allocation for phase two of the Naboro landfill project, indicating a broader commitment to improving waste management processes. He expressed optimism about future landfill projects and additional feasibility studies that align with the Ministry’s strategic goals.

In a bid to invigorate community involvement, a new budget incentive has been introduced, aiming to support community-led projects that address environmental challenges. Bulitavu’s satisfaction with the budget reflects a hopeful perspective on the Ministry’s ability to tackle pressing environmental issues effectively.

The recent budget allocation not only reinforces the government’s commitment to climate action but also highlights a proactive approach towards building resilient communities. With this funding, the Ministry is positioned to enhance its efforts in combating environmental challenges while fostering collaborative initiatives that involve local communities, ultimately fostering a healthier and more sustainable environment for all Fijians.
