The Assistant Minister from the Prime Minister’s Office, Sakiusa Tubuna, has announced that residents of the Bilo Settlement, situated outside of Lami town, will soon gain access to clean drinking water. Tubuna acknowledged the community’s efforts in seeking assistance from the ministry and emphasized the government’s commitment to enhancing the water supply to meet the settlement’s requirements.
In the interim, water trucks have been deployed to the area as a temporary measure; however, Tubuna outlined that these solutions are short-term strategies. He expressed hope that within the next few months, the residents would see significant improvements, stating, “It’s quite surprising…here you see big buildings and people living in comfort, but they don’t have water.”
This announcement reinforces the government’s ongoing dedication to ensuring that all citizens, especially those in rural areas, have access to essential services like clean drinking water. The proactive steps taken by the government indicate a wider initiative aimed at addressing water supply issues across various regions in Fiji, such as similar recent efforts in Udu district and Korovuto Settlement, where the government pledged improved access to safe drinking water after acknowledging long-standing challenges.
In the context of these developments, Tubuna’s assurance highlights the importance of community involvement and government support in overcoming water accessibility challenges. With this renewed focus, there is optimism for a brighter future and improved quality of life for the residents of Bilo Settlement as essential services begin to meet their needs.
In summary, the government’s commitment to providing clean drinking water not only emphasizes the importance of basic infrastructure but also enhances the overall well-being and health of communities across Fiji, paving the way for sustainable development.
