Up to 300 students currently studying in tents in Vanua Levu are expected to return to their new classrooms by the end of 2025, according to Assistant Education Minister Iliesa Vanawalu. He mentioned that there is funding allocated in the budget for the reconstruction of three schools affected by cyclones.
Mr. Vanawalu stated that the ministry is in the process of finalizing the remaining work scheduled for this year and into 2025. He also confirmed that a feasibility study for the three schools has been completed. The minister emphasized that ensuring the schools have adequate learning spaces and safe environments is the ministry’s primary focus.
While he couldn’t provide a specific timeline for the project’s completion, he expressed optimism that all students would be back in their classrooms by the end of next year.
