The Fiji Finals scheduled for May 2025 is facing a scheduling conflict with a Super Rugby Pacific match involving the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua and the Reds, set to be held in Suva. Both events are significant in their respective domains— the Fiji Finals, organized by the Fiji Secondary Schools Athletics Association (FSSAA), typically takes place during the first week of May, coinciding with the end of the first school term, while the Drua’s game at HFC Bank Stadium is scheduled for May 3, 2025.
In response to this conflict, the Fijian Drua and FSSAA are collaborating to find a workable solution. Shane Hussein, General Manager of the Drua, mentioned that they are in active discussions with the FSSAA and Fiji Sports Council, and they have some potential options to consider. One possibility on the table is to hold the Fiji Finals earlier in the week to avoid the clash.
Biu Colati, the competition director for the Coca-Cola Games, expressed optimism about reaching an agreement soon, with discussions expected to conclude in the first week of January. The aim is to create a favorable arrangement that allows both the Fiji Finals and the rugby match to take place, enabling fans from the region to enjoy both events.
Interestingly, a similar situation arose in 2023, prompting a rescheduling of the Fiji Finals from its traditional May dates to late April. As both parties remain committed to finding a solution, fans can look forward to a potential compromise that supports the spirit of sportsmanship and community participation.
