COMPLETE Insurance Services PTE Limited (CISL) has renewed its partnership with the Billiard and Snooker Association of Fiji (BSAF) for a third consecutive year, securing backing that the sporting body says is critical as it prepares to stage the next national tournament. The announcement on Tuesday confirmed CISL’s continuing role as a principal sponsor and coincides with fresh opportunities for local players to access international competition.
BSAF president Keshwan Nadan thanked CISL for its continued commitment and said the sponsorship has eased the organisation of domestic events. “Sponsorship doesn’t come easy, but these guys (CISL) have come forward in the last three years, and in sponsoring this tournament it’s made us very easy to accommodate the players to play all the tournaments, the A grade and the B grade,” Nadan said, underlining the importance of funds for player logistics and event delivery.
The next national tournament will be the association’s first event at the South Seas Club in Lautoka, Nadan added, though the exact dates are yet to be confirmed. The move to Lautoka — Fiji’s second-largest city — signals an effort to broaden the sport’s geographic footprint beyond its traditional centres and make competition more accessible to players and fans in the west.
CISL director Christopher Campbell said his company was pleased to continue supporting what he described as a “minor sport” that has shown tangible progress during the three years of partnership. “We are just happy to throw our support behind Billiard and Snooker Association of Fiji; we have done it for the past three years. Also, throw our support behind minor sports in the country, because I feel they have been neglected for some time,” Campbell said, framing the sponsorship as part of a wider commitment to developing grassroots and niche sports.
The renewal arrives at an important moment for BSAF. Vice president Ramond Reddy revealed that the association has been accepted into the Oceania Pocket Billiard Association, a development that grants Fijian players eligibility to compete on the world stage under the World Pool Association umbrella. “The good news is that now BSAF, Billiards and Snooker Association of Fiji, has been accepted into the Oceania Pocket Billiard Association, which gives us eligibility now to compete at the world stage, World Pool Association,” Reddy said, noting the potential this brings for international exposure and career pathways for talented players.
BSAF officials say the combination of sustained sponsorship and regional affiliation should help raise standards domestically and attract greater participation and investment. With the Lautoka tournament now pencilled in as the next major event and international doors opening, the association will provide further details on the competition schedule and selection processes for international representation as they are finalised.
