China is at the forefront of enhancing global engagement in trade and services. For the last 11 years, the country has hosted the China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS), inviting nations from across the globe. The 12th edition took place from September 12 to 16 at the China National Convention Center and Shougang Park in Beijing.
Since its inception in 2012, CIFTIS has grown into one of the largest service fairs worldwide, and this year continued that trend. A total of 85 countries participated, showcasing their offerings through various embassy displays. Although Fiji was missed at the event, its participation would have been valuable for both trading opportunities and cultural exchange.
Ninety journalists from 83 countries, including three from the Pacific Islands, attended the China International Press Communication Centre program, which coincided with CIFTIS 2024. Their involvement was significant, allowing them to share insights and stories from the fair with a global audience.
The atmosphere at the fair was buzzing, with many captivating displays across numerous booths. Attendees could explore a variety of items, including shoes, clothing, designer bags, toys, and souvenirs. The venue was bustling, making it a challenge to navigate, but many visitors took the opportunity to purchase mementos from their experience.
Among the innovative displays was a remarkable robot designed to resemble a friendly dog. Its responsive behavior, such as jumping when a hand was raised, demonstrated advanced technological developments in China. This year’s fair highlighted both digital services and eco-friendly tourism, showcasing how various countries leverage technology and creativity within the service sector.
CIFTIS 2024 proved to be an inspiring event, filled with new ideas and a unique ambiance that left a lasting impression on attendees. It underscored the significance of collaboration in the service industry, emphasizing the continuum of learning and improvement that such exchanges foster.
