China is at the forefront of enhancing international interest in services and trade. For over a decade, the nation has hosted the China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS), welcoming countries from around the globe.
The 12th CIFTIS took place from September 12 to 16 at the China National Convention Center and Shougang Park in Beijing. Since its inception in 2012, CIFTIS has become one of the largest service trade fairs worldwide, and this year continued that tradition.
Eighty-five nations participated in this year’s event, creating a vibrant atmosphere with numerous embassies represented. However, there was a notable absence; Fiji was not present, leaving the opportunity to showcase its unique culture and potentially open new avenues for trade unfulfilled.
Ninety journalists from eighty-three countries, including representatives from the Pacific Islands, gathered in Beijing for the latter part of the China International Press Communication Centre program. They also had the opportunity to cover CIFTIS 2024, enabling them to share their insights and experiences globally.
As I explored various booths, I was captivated by the lively ambiance and diverse exhibits. From innovative technologies to cultural showcases, the fair had something for everyone, including clothing, accessories, toys, and souvenirs. The venue was bustling, making navigation challenging, but I couldn’t resist purchasing a few keepsakes from this incredible experience.
One of the standout displays featured an impressive robot resembling a playful dog, which wowed many attendees, including myself. The robot reacted to movements, such as jumping when I raised my hand and lowering itself when I gently tapped its head, showcasing the advanced technology being developed in China.
CIFTIS was not only a platform for showcasing products but also a celebration of collaboration among nations in the service sector. The fair was brimming with energy, and I learned about various digital services and sustainable tourism initiatives, sparking my curiosity about how different countries harness technology and creativity in their offerings.
Overall, CIFTIS 2024 was an inspiring event for my friends and me. The plethora of new ideas and the unique atmosphere made our visit truly unforgettable. This experience highlighted the importance of international cooperation in the service industry, emphasizing the myriad possibilities for growth and improvement.
