Errol Qaqa, a representative of Fiji and an alumnus of Church College Fiji, has lauded the remarkable growth and resilience observed during this year’s Church College Fiji Interhouse competition, describing it as a significant advancement for the school’s athletics program. Currently serving as a coach, Qaqa was actively involved in mentoring student-athletes throughout a comprehensive schedule filled with track and field events.

He expressed admiration for the determination displayed by the young participants, many of whom surpassed their personal bests, despite facing challenging weather conditions. “It has been a really good event. To see these kids doing their very best, beating their PBs and showing that interhouse spirit as a school has been wonderful from the very beginning,” Qaqa shared, highlighting the spirit of camaraderie among the competitors.

The event showcased a range of athletic talents from long jump and triple jump to various field events, with students maintaining focus amid steady rain. Qaqa noted that the excitement around the 4×100 metre relays exemplified the fierce spirit that reflects the school’s preparation for the upcoming zone competition.

He pointed out that Church College Fiji has achieved a remarkable milestone, with its student enrollment exceeding 500 for the first time, a leap from its usual 300-plus students. This growth signals a vibrant expansion within the LDS school community, leading to increased participation and a heightened level of competition at the interhouse events.

Qaqa compared this year’s competition to last year’s, noting a clear difference. “There are so many more students competing this year, and that’s a really good sign,” he remarked. Additionally, he acknowledged the growing diversity in the competition, with students from Fiji, Vanuatu, and other schools enriching the event.

With enthusiasm building and numbers on the rise, Qaqa is optimistic that Church College Fiji is well-prepared to support its student-athletes as they aim for strong performances in the upcoming zone meet. The foundation laid during the Interhouse competition suggests a bright future for the school’s athletics program and its aspiring athletes.
