In the past three days, authorities recorded a total of 934 traffic violations, predominantly minor offences, correlating with the increased traffic from holiday shopping. Assistant Commissioner for Police Operations (ACPO) Livai Driu highlighted that most violations involved straightforward road rule breaches.
Out of the 934 offences, 440 involved minor infractions and 311 pertained to speeding, which remains a leading factor in road accidents. ACP Driu emphasized the importance of adhering to speed limits for the safety of all road users. In addition, 58 drivers were cited for careless driving, while 51 were penalized for both not presenting a driving license and failing to wear seat belts.
Other violations included 10 drivers ticketed for exceeding passenger limits, 8 for using mobile phones while driving, and 5 for having expired driving licenses. Furthermore, 23 drivers were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.
ACP Driu reiterated efforts to promote traffic awareness and encourage compliance with road regulations. He advised drivers to plan their trips carefully, rest adequately, and limit alcohol consumption if they intend to drive.
Traffic officers will maintain vigilance on the roads as traffic is expected to increase, with checkpoints remaining in place to ensure safety and security for all travelers.
In summary, while traffic violations have surged during this busy shopping season, authorities are taking proactive steps to enhance road safety and encourage responsible driving. With ongoing efforts to raise awareness, there is hope that drivers will heed these warnings and contribute to safer road conditions during the festive period.
