Christmas Kindness: A Shelter’s Heartwarming Mission

Spread the love

Despite heavy rainfall across the Western Division, families embraced the Christmas spirit and made the most of the day. Many residents chose to attend church services and prepare festive meals for their loved ones.

In Lautoka City, those experiencing homelessness found warmth and nourishment at the Feed My Sheep shelter in Naikabula. This shelter, which provides a safe haven for those in need throughout the year, served hearty meals to approximately 80 individuals on Christmas Day.

Emily Qio, the founder of the shelter, emphasized the importance of compassion during the holiday season, reminding everyone that Christmas is a celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ, who welcomed all, regardless of their background or status. “I always remind everyone that comes to the shelter that Jesus never looked at ethnicity, status, or whether people were poor or rich,” she stated. “He welcomed everyone. That is how we should live and care for His people.”

Despite limited resources, Mrs. Qio remains committed to ensuring that no one is turned away, particularly during a time meant for families to come together. “I always make sure that there is a plate of food ready for them when they come to the shelter,” she added. This year, the meals were made possible thanks to the generous contributions from donors.

The shelter is not just a place for meals; it has also provided solace and support for those in need. Mrs. Qio recalled the recent passing of a 70-year-old resident for whom she arranged a funeral with no family present. She also shared her decision to take in a five-year-old girl from a disadvantaged background, aiming to provide her with a better life than what she had known.

This situation underscores the importance of community support and compassion during the holiday season. Mrs. Qio’s unwavering dedication highlights how acts of kindness can significantly impact those struggling with life’s hardships, offering hope and a sense of belonging.

In summary, while the weather may have posed challenges, the spirit of community and generosity shined through, showcasing the true essence of Christmas through acts of love and care for one another.
